Summer '09 Top Space Video - Kaguya Crashing Into the Moon

Gravity Anomaly Map in prior to the Kaguya The SELENE satellite lived up to its popular nickname of "Kaguya".  The oldest extant Japanese story, 'The Tale of Princess Kaguya' tells of a beautiful moon-girl and the Emperor of Japan's failed attempts to woo her which ended with his army's ascent of Mount Fuij - the closest point in his world to the moon.  The Japanese Kaguya lunar orbiter satellite crash landed on the lunar surface -it may have taken a while, but it was worth the effort.

Batman Begins, Recut

Batmanbegins Wow! Scary...Batman Begins recut as a horror flick of the 2005 film staring Christian Bale as Batman, as well as Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Liam Neeson, Katie Holmes, Cillian Murphy and Morgan Freeman. The film was written about Batman's origins starting with the murder of his parents with some inspirations from classic comic book storylines such as Batman: The Man Who Falls, Batman: Year One, and Batman: The Long Halloween. Daily Motion -Europe's Challenge to YouTube

Dailymotion_3As the video-sharing phenomenon spreads worldwide, the French venture DailyMotion has emerged in the heart of Old Europe to challenge YouTube. With 9,000 new videos pouring in each day and daily page views surpassing the 16 million mark, Paris-based site looks poised to grab a piece of Europe's fastest-growing online audience.

I highly recommend the site as an alternative to the mainstream American media for a more Europe-centric point of view on news, science and technology, arts, politics, extreme sports, gaming, comedy, film and TV, music (and a hot Sexy Channel to boot), and travel. The music is especially cool -a place to discover new artists and music videos.

My sense is that DailyMotion will give YouTube a run for its money in the 500 million plus broadband-centric European Union market. Posted by Casey Kazan.

Google & the People's Cosmos -New Frontiers in Space

Hubble_space_telescope_5Carol Christian and Alberto Conti of the Hubble Space Telescope Science Institute give a brilliant video tour at the Googleplex of the Universe and the revolution now underway in astronomy and astrophysics. The next decade will witness the completion of massive, wide-area, multicolor imaging and spectroscopic surveys of the local and distant Universe.

With the coming flood of information, the next step of this task is to allow users to actively explore the cosmos themselves. In this talk they show some of the potential explorations of this wealth of data to help us all better understand the Universe in which we live.

Earlier this year Microsoft unveiled a demo of the virtual "World-wide Telescope," which aims to allow a PC to impersonate a powerful, ground-based telescope. The software draws on tens of millions of digital images that are part of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey and other sources, such as NASA's Hubble Space Telescope. The demo zoomed out from Microsoft's Redmond campus to view Earth and then zooming farther out, beyond our galaxy, showed the Big Dipper and several other galaxies from the same vantage point.
