The 17th Annual "ig’s" –The Nobel Prize for Outrageously Humorous Science

For achievements that first make people laugh...then make them think.

First awarded through Alfred Nobel’s will in 1985, the Nobel Prizes are currently awarded for Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature, Peace and Economics. They are the big awards if you’re a scientist, kind of like the Oscars are for actors.

However, just as the Academy Awards have their counterpart – the Golden Raspberry awards for bad film work – so do the Nobel prizes have their own less reputable, but often far more enjoyable counterpart.

Birth of Star Wars: George Lucas in Love -Daily Comedy Classic

In the film, George Lucas is a USC college student in 1967, and he's suffering from writer's block as he tries to write a movie about a young space farmer with a bad crop of "space wheat."

It takes only one or two scenes to realize that encounters with classmates and teachers all either resemble or will inspire the creation of characters that have become part of our cultural mythology: Obi Wan Kenobi, Yoda, Darth Vader, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Jabba the Hutt, or R2-D2.

Flight Of The Conchords "I'm Not Crying" —Daily Comedy Classic

Our favorite Kiwis, Bret and Jemaine, have moved to New York in the hope of forging a successful music career. According to them, they’ve already found a manager (whose "other" job is at the New Zealand Consulate), one fan (a married obsessive) and one friend (who owns the local pawn shop).

Now all they need are hot chicks, and lots of ‘em. Watch how smooth Jemaine (who looks like a cross between an ogre and a librarian) is when he croons to a girl at a party that she’s pretty enough to be a waitress.

The Flight of the Conchords "The Humans are Dead"—Daily Comedy Classic

Warning: The musical comedy act comprised of Kiwis Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement, also known as The Flight of the Conchords, describe themselves as "New Zealand's 4th most popular guitar-based digi-bongo acapella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo". Now they are "the almost award-winning fourth-most-popular folk duo in New Zealand."

Whatever they are, they are absolutely hilarious! The duo has entertained loyal fans for the past several years, but with their recent side-splitting performance on Late Night with Conan O'Brien—they’re sure to gain the widespread popularity that this kind of comic genius deserves. This video clip features one of my all-time favorite songs, written for the robots that will soon kill us all. Enjoy!

But if you’ve got the stomach for it, you’ll enjoy these wonderfully lame, hilarious highlights of moviemaking at it’s worst.
