X Files Dept: Google's Path to HAL
"I actually think most people don't want Google to answer their questions. They want Google to tell them what they should be doing next." This is not a quote from a darkly fanciful sci-fi writer, it is the voice of Eric Schmidt, Google's CEO, describing his vision for the company in an August 14 Wall Street Journal interview.

There's a word for Mr. Shmidt's plans for Google: Communism. That's the state in which a higher authority tells us stupid common folks what we should do, think, and believe, and limits our ability to compete and grow. The majority of people DO NOT want "HAL" telling them what to do next. If there ever comes a time when the majority of people are on board with that, it's time for a mass ritual suicide, because life will no longer have any allure to the living.

Alex that state is not particular to Communism but to Government. I haven't read the full Schmidt text but using the quote above to characterize it as "vision" is a bit of a stretch; the quote is at best an observation.

We could create a virtual world within our virtual world run by the primary server G.O.D. I am an NDE survivor and I can tell you "we are "Living" in a virtual world right now", it's all numbers within numbers.
