YouTube SciFi Video Snags Big Hollywood Contract

Panic Attack

A producer from Uruguay who uploaded a short film to YouTube in November 2009 has been offered a $30 million contract to make a Hollywood film. The movie will be sponsored by director Sam Raimi, whose credits include the Spiderman and Evil Dead films. Fede Alvarez's short film "Ataque de Panico!" (Panic Attack!) features giant robots invading and destroying Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay.

Great short, but Hollywood worthy...? Well Yeah, but I would rather see it in the indie circuit. More story driven then the flash bang hollywood CGI that we'll end up getting. characters that drive you nuts in the first 5min will also be included in the mix.

Oh wonderful, another Sci Fi movie about fear, destruction and violence. Lessee, how will we escape/kill/end the (fill in the blank) before it (fill in the blank)s us all. I love science fiction when it is intelligent, intriguing, has a sense of humor, and teaches something good about where we might be heading, but not another commercially driven 'feed the popular blood lust' flick, Please!?!

This was just the litte kids dream sequence.

It didn't actually happen.

I agree with the posting by Jay. Percentage wise, there has been way too many apocalyptic sci-fi movies created. Obviously the Computer Graphics industry has a vested interest in it these days. Is the creativity of Hollywood is in such short supply to come up with anything apart from the stale fare that might resemble something different than the earth going in the crapper time and time again. I'm sure CG explosions were invented for the very reason to save production costs first then safety second. It looks like they're milking their investment for every last drop. What is it with the collective psyche that wants to pay hard earned money to see end of the world scenarios? Are we so pessimistic as a species that we have to lap up that drivel or do we have an inherent self destructive streak in us that craves conflict and war. Some people!
