MIT research finds global warming may be part of natural cycles, contradicts scientific data

122450main_methane_chart_lg Scientists at MIT have recorded a nearly simultaneous world-wide increase in methane levels. This is the first increase in ten years, and what baffles science is that this data contradicts theories stating man is the primary source of increase for this greenhouse gas. It takes about one full year for gases generated in the highly industrial northern hemisphere to cycle through and reach the southern hemisphere. However, since all worldwide levels rose simultaneously throughout the same year, it is now believed this may be part of a natural cycle in mother nature - and not the direct result of man's contributions.

Hey kids! Do your research! (Or is this another one of those "Ruskies say Minnesota bridge collapse caused by seekrit US sooper-weapon!!!OMG!!1!!" stories by TDG?)

It took me five minutes of journalistic research (ie: Googling) to get the whole story instead of just regurgitating what was posted on the parent article's site.

There will always be global self healing for any sickening disturbances, either natural causing changes or changes caused by human.

Earth went through more dramatic and severe changes before and healed itself;

The unusually big forming storms phenomenon we are seeing lately is part of the healing process events, redistributing heat and washing C02 down to the oceans.

I believe that there will be a tipping point someday in the changes cycle when will come about a major change toward the positive. Major changes to the oceanic currents due to melting of polar ice, thus causing rebalancing and settlement of earth overall condition, similar to trying to reach equilibrium.

Can we just give earth a chance and help it to catch up and heal itself?

Very good article...even if Not much popular ...nowadays ....when everybody claims that we the modern humans are the bad guys creating the Greenhouse gases....and consequent climatic changes.

Yes we contribute somewhat and somehow with our CO2 emissions.

NOBODY However has YET defined how much is OUR contribution and how much planet earth goes his own cycles and ways ....simply ignoring us....and our behaviour.

NONE has touched Yet this point and validated with tests....and not with 'smart theories' and simplistic computer modeling.

At the end of the day They (in the article) might be right : our CO2 may be nothing in the massive changes that are natural...that occurred so many times in the past and will occur again.

Sorry for the green people around....and for this unpopular vision.

The other explanation, the Syberia's defreezing is happening.

This is not only bull shit 'and very astonishing to me who teach at MIT) but more is very dangerous. Nobody withdraw the role of Methane gaz into this climate warming and changes, more than this every real specialist and scientist on earth knows the terrible danger generated by the increasing of permafrost methane gas emission which may multiply by hundred the warming effects within a year period; however now NOBODY (other those acting with bad faith or those severely paid by the big polluters) can compromise the fact that human being is responsible of the climate warming. However to be only honest cars and trucks are not this responsible factor but factories and other large industrial plants.

really ridiculous - if the process is beyond our influence we can stand only aside and watch the system collape. we should do what we can to prevent earth from global warming even if there is a chance that it is "not our fault" (that doesnt change the facts)

Wow, yet another example of media taking the research and skewing it to something extreme and eye-catching. Take a look at the actual article (http://web.mit.edu/newsoffice/2008/methane-tt1029.html) and tell me if you would have derived the conclusions of this page before having read it. I know I wouldn't have. The actual research seems to essentially say "We see a rise in natural methane levels. We don't know why yet. End of story."

It seems like no amount of science can convince some people about cyclicallity of climate. Data from 20 years of temps. recording from MIT doesn't seem to impress folks as much as Al Gore's movie! What a shame! What about scientists from UVA and their research? Yes, I know, they were "bought" by the big polluters too. Now if you follow the money trail and ask yourself the question who benefits from this situation. The first one that comes to mind is Al Gore! Nobel Prize cash, movie and his carbon credit sheme he is pushing! He is loughing on the way to the bank! What happened to Ice Age of the 70's, ozone hole of the 80's?? The grant money dried up so there was a need to invent a new scam? Shame on you if you call yourself "scientist"!
P.S. Person claiming to have worked at MIT! Your English is atrocious! What can you teach when you write so poorly?
