TETRIS BLOCKS "DISCOVERED", RUSSIA CRIES FRAUD
TOKYO, JULY 15 - A group of amateur scientists have announced their discovery of the only known source of Tetris blocks.
"What we found is truly revolutionary," says Felipe Madrazo, who led the group of scientists. "This is like discovering that the world is flat."
Russian Ambassador to Japan, Alexander Pajitnov, issued a statement immediately after the discovery, calling it a "fraud" and a "serious call to reconsideration of Russian-Japanese relations".
A spokeswoman for Ambassador Pajitnov said "We have good reason to believe that these are not Tetris blocks, but instead Mario blocks. These Osaka blocks are stationary and by themselves. Tetris blocks come in tetrinimos and fall."
Tetrinimos - clusters of Tetris blocks - are commonly seen around the world. However, the idea of individual blocks existing outside of tetrinimos has only been in theory, and have been traditionally thought to be of Russian origin.
A group of international scientists is being sent to Osaka to perform testing on the blocks to determine their identity.
