The Japanese brewery Sapporo has said it was planning the first "space beer," using offspring of barley once stored at the International Space Station. Researchers said the project was part of efforts to prepare for a future in which humans spend extended periods of time in space -- and might need a cold beer after dealing with rebellious AI.

Will the Arctic be a 21st Century Sarajevo, triggering a major war over energy resources? Canada, Denmark, Norway, Russia and the United States are at odds over
1.2 million square kilometers (460,000 square miles) of Arctic seabed which could possibly hold 25% of the world's oil and gas.
Climate change, which is rendering the region increasingly
accessible, has upped the ante, making the need for an
international resolution of the conflicting claims in the area more
pressing. Maritime security and protection of the fragile Arctic
ecosystem will also be hot items on the agenda at the May 28 meeting.

ability to harness sunlight on a planet's surface for energy."
R. John Parkes, microbiologist at Cardiff University
It is a fascinating thing when scientists delve to locations previously untouched. Now, in such a discovery, 1.6 kilometers beneath the seafloor in the North Atlantic Ocean, a new life-form has been found. This marks not only the deepest known point that an organism exists beneath the ocean bottom, but is also possibly the hottest life-form yet found in seafloor sediments.
