Space Economy will Top Internet as Future Boom
Outer space is the future of business, according to a report released last week by the Space Foundation, a nonprofit research and education association. The report said the Space Economy, defined as the full range of economic activities in the course of exploring, understanding and utilizing space, has become the next great frontier for business growth, exceeding $250 billion in projected value to the U.S. economy.
Commercial activities, such as satellite and GPS-related services, raked in $173.4 billion in 2007 - more than 70 percent of total global space revenues. By contrast, NASA's budget is only $17.3 billion in 2008.
"We believe that the business opportunity in space technology and commerce will outpace and eclipse the growth we saw in the early days of the Internet," said Rich Phillips, president of Phillips & Co.

better a space economy rather than one geared for war.

Agreed, although so far the two have been more closely linked than we tend to acknowledge.

IF YOU READ MY PUBLISHED LINK, YOU'LL UNDERSTAND THAT GLOBAL WARMING IS THE CAUSE FOR ERATIC BEHAVIOR ON EARTH. I'VE BEEN TOLD BY SOCIETIES THAT I'M THE SECOND SMARTEST PERSON ON EARTH AND NOW I'M BEING INTERVIEWED FOR A BOOK FOR MY INTELLIGENTS. I'VE BEEN TRYING TO EMAIL ALL THE COASTLINES IN AMERICA AND OTHER COUNTRIES SO THEY'D BE AWARE, BUT I'M NOT A COMPUTER PERSON. I'VE EMAILED A EXPERIMENT TO THE E.P.A. SO THEY COULD PROVE TO THEMSELVES AND CONGRESS THAT EXHAUST AND GASES DECIPATE IN FRONT OF THEIR EYES. IT TAKES A FAR GREATER INTELLIGENCE TO WEAKEN THE FORCEFIELD (OZONE) THAT WE HUMANS DONT POSESS. I KNOW WHERE ONE IS, BUT NOT THE OTHERS. IF YOU GET A CHANCE RESEND MY LINK TO OTHER NATIONS SO WE CAN DELETE GLOBAL WARMING ON EARTH. I HEARD INDIA FOUND AN OLD TEMPLE IN THE SAND NEAR THE BEACH OF INDIA. WHO KNOWS WHAT TREASURES CAN BE FOUND IN THE SAND OFF OUR BEACHHEADS. AT THE SAME TIME BY SUCKING THE SAND OUT OF THE OCEANS, LIKE MY PROVEN EXPERIMENT WE CAN LOWER OUR OCEANS. IF WE COULD SEND SHIPS WITH HIGH POWERED REFRIGERATION UNITS AND SNOW BLOWERS TO ALL THE GLACIERS AND BLOW FROZEN AIR AND SALTWATER SNOW 24 HOURS A DAY, MAYBE WE CAN SLOW THE MELTING DOWN OR EVEN STOP THE GLACIERS FROM MELTING. I KNOW ALOT BUT IT TAKES MONEY AND I ONLY HAVE BRAINS FOR THE SAVING OF ALL LIFE ON AND IN EARTH. MIKE

To expand on what SciFiDrive & Lee have said, the rocket was originally designed as a weapon of war ( The V2 missiles ), but Von Braun was brought from Nazi Germany to use his knowledge of rocketry to build rockets to send Americans into space. The 2 have been linked, but rockets & satellites can be used, of course, for a higher purpose.
Getting business into the " business " of space can do more than just furthering capitalism & exploiting resources. Exploration can be driven by capitalism & the desire for pure exploration.

If we get big business & free enterprise more actively involved in space & space exploration, it'll be to do more than retrieve Moon - & - Mars rocks to be made into jewelry & knick - knacks to be sold on QVC, one would hope.

Sure millionaires wouldn't mind spending. But the question is about the growth of the industry. Most would consider this as a once in a lifetime opportunity. Though the experience would be thrilling, not many would want to spend 20 million so frequently.

I must say business opportunity in space technology and commerce will outpace and eclipse the growth really soon.
