Adopt the Sky!
In response to the EPA’s newly announced ozone pollution standards, standards that have fallen far short of what experts have demanded as being necessary, Earthjustice, a non-profit public interest law-firm dedicated to protecting the magnificent places, natural resources, and wildlife, has set up Adopt the Sky.
Having failed to drop the ozone pollution standards to the recommended 0.060 ppm/8-hours put forth by health advocacy groups and members of the scientific community, the EPA have made themselves that bit more unpopular. Dropping the levels from 0.08 ppm/8-hours to a value in the range of 0.075 ppm/8-hours to 0.070 ppm/8-hours is simply not enough, especially when you consider that already, 4.5 million kids within the United States suffer from asthma.
Adopt the Sky is a simple idea, and relatively self-explanatory. In signing a petition that will eventually be handed to the EPA later this summer, each petitioner is assigned a virtual square mile of sky. At the moment, it is only open to residents of the US to sign, however using a little internet know-how, anyone can sign up and help a cause that will have lasting effects worldwide.
