Superman Reborn?
Our favorite Superman movie at the Galaxy is the one that was never made, Superman Reborn: the 1994 cancelled Warner Bros script featured an insecure Clark Kent unable to admit his feelings for Lois Lane. Before Superman can resolve his feelings, he and a creature called Doomsday fight to the death. When Superman dies, his soul enters Lois' body, and she soon gives birth to Superman's child. The child grows into the body of a 21-year-old man within weeks. Lois is killed in the middle of the film, and the child assumes his birthright as the new Superman and saves the world.
The classic lore of the imaginary Superman Reborn short (see link below) featuring the cast of Smallville makes us long for what might have been compared to the Smallville series we've been watching the past few seasons. But maybe there's hope!
Fans of the TV show Smallville will be able to recall the steadily building introduction of several DC universe characters. Bart Allen (aka, the Flash), Cyborg, Green Arrow and several more characters have made their way to the small screen.
Smallville, which has spent six seasons depicting the life of Clark Kent, who later becomes Superman, has developed quite a fan following. However it has also come under heavy criticism from Superman purists, who feel that it is nothing more than a poorly created alternate reality for the Superman series.
Critics point to the introduction of Lois Lane prior to Superman’s 10 year sabbatical, Pete Ross’s departure from the show early on and the purely fictional (ok, everything’s fictional, but you know what I mean) Chloe Sullivan.
Well, in a step that seems to once again do nothing but toy with Superman canon, Supergirl will be arriving at the farmstead for the seventh season. Kara, the Supergirl which is known to be Superman’s cousin, will have all of Clark’s ability, including the ability to fly. (While Clark has exhibited flying abilities, he has yet to be able to fly on demand.)
Set to also fall for Jimmy Olsen, producers of the show are excited about this new step. “One of the joys of creating Smallville has been our ability to reinvent and reinterpret classic DC Comics characters,” said Smallville executive producer Al Gough. “Miles and I believe that Supergirl will give our series the mythic jolt that it needs as we head into our seventh season.”
We can only wait and see whether this helps the show enough to push it through for more seasons, or if it will fizzle out further.

As an long-time Superman fan, I must say that, even though I was not satisfied with the silly Superman of the forties and fifties, and hardly less silly Superman of the sixties and later, Smallville is LAME. They have replaced the imagination-stirring superhero possibilities with teenwad melodrama. It is to gag. These people truly think they are psychologically insightful? I've heard the motto of the producers is no cape and no flights. Great. So we are left with pretty people emoting. Or producing what they think is emotion.
Pretty sure the advent of Supergirl will not help. Never liked her anyway. Or Krypto. Or any of that dumb collateral junk.
