Crop circles have long been associated with . Believers in the beyond claim that the circles are intricate messages from aliens attempting to communicate with us through ancient Sumerian symbols. Now, speculation surrounds the existence of similar symbols in northeastern New Mexico, and people are looking to the Church of Scientology.
Two huge, overlapping circles are etched into the desert plain outside of Las Vegas, New Mexico. CNN’s Gary Tuchman reports that some suspect the circles are “signposts for reincarnated scientologists who come from outer space.”
Michael Pattinson, a former Scientology member and skeptic of the church’s practices, claims that the circles indicate one of the vaults housing the archives of L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of the Church of Scientology. The Church of Scientology refuses the claims.
