The Mystery of Dark Matter in the Universe -A Video

Heic0701a_h_4About 80-85% of the matter in our Universe is invisible, the so-called 'dark matter'. Although astronomers have known about the presence of dark matter for many decades, finding a technique to view its distribution is a much more recent development. An international team of scientists has assembled the first three-dimensional map (left) that offers a look at the web-like large-scale distribution of dark matter in the Universe by analysing the Hubble COSMOS survey  (the largest ever survey undertaken with Hubble).

This fascinating video is about dark matter and the creation of new map, which is equivalent to seeing a city, its suburbs and surrounding country roads in daylight for the first time. Major arteries and intersections are revealed and the variety of different neighbourhoods becomes evident. Posted by Jason McManus.
